THE 56TH PRESIDENTIAL CYCLING TOUR OF TURKEY CONTINUES

MARK CAVENDISH FROM QUICK STEP TEAM TAKES WIN IN 212.6 KM BEYSEHIR-ALANYA STAGE UNDER THE SPONSORSHIP OF HOME TURKEY 

THE BRITISH SPRINTER HAD HIS 9TH WIN IN TURKEY WITH THIS VICTORY 

184.4 KM ALANYA-KEMER STAGE OF THE TOUR WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW

Mark Cavendish of the Quick Step team won the 212.6 km Beyşehir-Alanya stage of the 56th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey which took place under Salcano sponsorship in 5 hours 10 minutes and 34 seconds. In the extraordinary finish witnessing the entrance of the entire peloton, Cavendish once more displayed his classy style and took win number nine in the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. Cavendish thus earned the right to take on the Turquoise Jersey in tomorrow’s Alanya-Kemer stage (the leader of the Individual General Classification).

FROM WINTER-SNOW TO SUMMER 

169 riders inaugurated the longest stage leg of the Tour in Beyşehir-Alanya sprint at 09.33 in front of Beyşehir Eşrefoğlu Mosque to welcome a new season after intense snow fall and winter conditions in Cappadocia and Nevşehir last Friday-Saturday. Mark Cavendish in Turquoise jersey from Quick Step team was in the limelight in this challenging third stage of the Tour. World’s most famous sprinter continues dancing on the bicycle despite his advancing age.

KING OF THE MOUNTAINS VITALIY BUTS

Vitaliy Buts from Salcano Sakarya team taking on the Red Jersey under the sponsorship of Turkish Airlines King of the Mountains Category in Beyşehir-Alanya stage to retain his position earned the right to wear the jersey once more in tomorrow’s Alanya-Kemer stage under the sponsorship of Salcano. 

THE  BREAKAWAY 

Right after the kick-off, five riders took a breakaway from the peloton and took the lead. Pierre Rolland from B&B Hotels team, Isaac Canton from Burgos team, Carmelo Urbano from Caja Rural team, Mathias Le Turnier from Delko team and Gabriel Reguero from Spor-Toto team gradually increased their tempo. 

BRAVO WON SALCANO SPRINT PREMIUM

Garikoitz Bravo from the Euskaltel team won the intermediate sprint under the sponsorship of Salcano at 41 km to score five points. Pierre Rolland from B&B Hotels team and Mathias Le Turnier  from Delko team came through second and third respectively. 

VENCHIARUTTI WON TURKISH AIRLINES CLIMB PREMIUM 

Nicola Venchiarutti from Androni team won the climb premium under the sponsorship of Turkish Airlines at 70.9 km of the stage. Though having missed both premiums, Vitaliy Buts from Salcano Sakarya team retained Red Jersey with his previously earned 9 points. 

ELCHIN ASADOV AND FERITCAN SAMLI GOT UNLUCKY

Elchin Asadov from Salcano Sakarya and Feritcan Şamli from Spor-Toto team, had an attack at the beginning of the race and increased their pace to catch up with the break team, yet they were left behind in the following kilometers after having spent too much effort. 

GAP REDUCED TO 5 MINUTES ON THE CLIMB DOWN IN AKSEKI, THEN TO BE BRIDGED 

The break team maintained 5 minutes of gap pass Cevizli junction on the climb down in Akseki, while the peloton kept pacing up. The stage got a different course following the turn in Manavgat junction. Sprint got even more excited on flat terrain, while the gap was bridged to 1 minute. 

PELOTON PACED UP, RIDERS EXPECTED TO ENTER THE FINISH ALL TOGETHER 

Peloton paced up 20 km before the finish. The speed was observed to be above 40 km/h on average. Eyes were on the finish line. Time interval between the break team and peloton was 40 seconds. Yet another dazzling, unforgettable finish took place in Alanya. Riders were welcome with the sun, the sea and natural beauties to relieve their tiredness and they then let themselves in their rooms to get a massage and be ready for tomorrow’s new stage.  

4th STAGE ALANYA-KEMER

Antalya-Kemer stage of the 56th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey will take place tomorrow under the sponsorship of Salcano. The race will be staged on 184.4 km of mostly flat terrain.
